A Space for Indie Creators and Collectors
it was also a paradise for toy collectors and pop culture lovers. As soon as you stepped in, you were surrounded by rows of artists showcasing their original comics, variant covers, and custom prints. The tables were stacked with stories that repped years gone by, from superheroes to mythology and even some barrio antihero’s Right next to them, collectors and toy vendors had booths filled with vintage action figures, rare Funko Pops, and classic Hot Wheels. Panels, Pláticas, and a Live Art Session
Indie comics have always been about telling stories that don’t fit into the mainstream mold—stories with some heart, struggle, and at times voices that deserve to be heard. This event featured that as well.
As a creator I was able to share beyond the table to interested fans of our local indie comic book series ‘VATOMAN …and RUBEN!! a deeper look into the indie comics and about our journey in self-publishing. We spoke on the grind of crowdfunding, the struggle to break into the industry, and why staying true to your roots is everything.
Another major moment was speaking with OG toy collectors and resellers talking about the highs and lows of the game. They shared tips on spotting rare finds, the best ways to preserve vintage toys, and how to navigate the ever-changing market of collectibles.
Had a few live digital art demos to show some skills in real time and create characters from scratch was was fun and hopefully inspiring, as fans took the chance to ask about their techniques, tools, and creative process.
Toys, Comics, and Cosplay – The Perfect Combo
You already know no comic book and toy event is complete without some next-level cosplay. Some Fans showed up dressed as their favorite characters, iconic toy figures, and even mashed up classic looks. From from a shy teen wolf superhero to the mighty power rangers, the creativity and vibe all around was next level.
But more than just a cosplay showcase, this event was about community. It was about lifting each other up, showing love to indie creators, and making sure the cultura and passion for comics and collectibles stay alive for the next generation. Whether you were a longtime collector or someone just getting into the scene, everyone was welcomed with open arms.
Bomb Food to Keep the Energy Going
With all the excitement, you already know people had to refuel with some good eats. The food vendors came through with the classics—tacos, elotes, aguas frescas, and even some next-level churros. The smell of carne asada and fresh tortillas filled the air, pulling people toward the food trucks like a magnet.
One of the crowd favorites was a local vendor serving up “cakes and cookies” named Cake N Cookie Kitchen what else. People were eating, vibing, and sharing stories about their favorite finds of the day, making the food area a whole experience in itself inside and out.
The Power of Indie Comics and Collectibles
One of the most powerful things about events like this is seeing firsthand how comics, toys, and nostalgia bring people together. Throughout the day, fans shared stories about how certain comics resonated with them—how they saw their abuelitas, their homies, or their own struggles reflected in the pages. Others talked about finding a toy from their childhood that instantly took them back to the good old days.
For creators, collectors, and vendors, hearing these stories was a reminder of why they do what they do. Whether it’s a comic about throwback barrio legends, a rare action figure that sparks childhood memories, or an artist making a name for themselves in the game, these moments matter. They inspire, they empower, and they keep our cultura alive.
What’s Next?
